Chesterville, is located on the Nation River. In fact it flows straight through the middle of town. It is also ideally located approximately halfway between Ottawa to the north and Cornwall to the south. Chesterville is also located between two major rivers, the Ottawa River to the north and the Saint Lawrence Seaway to the south. This has a major impact on the region as the weather goes. It is also in the heart of Dairy Country. It has a pleasant and long growing season, but don't let this fool you, the winters can be very harsh, as the Ice Storm of 1998 will long remind us. The summers are very hot at times with a very high humidity factor. We come from out west, Calgary, Alberta, and we have still not adjusted to the climate here. After living in cities like Vancouver, Calgary and even closer to home here, Ottawa, you forget what it was like to grow up in a small town. The Nation river that flows through Chesterville, in all its peaceful splendor, still holds those special memories that I had about my own childhood, as I watch a couple of young boys, totally carefree, baiting their fishing lines, ready to catch that big whale that always got away. To understand better the feelings that I am attempting to convey, I placed a second picture of the Nation River below. There are many things to do in Chesterville. In summer as well as in winter, there are playgrounds, swimming pools, and trails for those nice, lazy walks on a warm summer evening. Something new has been added this year. Just this summer in June of 2004 a fountain was installed in the river near the bridge. I am also enclosing a picture of it below. In the winter you may find kids cleaning a space on the river, to play hockey or just to skate. You will also find several snowmobile trails leading around Chesterville. I haven't had the opportunity to check them all out yet, but once we have, we will be giving a better explanation of the trails. If you would like to see a larger picture of the ones below, just click on the picture and it will open in its own window.

We would also at this time, make everyone aware that we support our troops where ever they may serve. We tend to over shadow our troop with only Afghanistan and forget that our troops serve in other parts of the world also and right here at home. Our thoughts are with them all no matter where they may be or what their jobs may also consist off. We must also remember that our troops do not only comprise of regular forces members but also the many soldiers from the reserve. I bring this to your attention as I have had the pleasure of not only serving in the regular forces but also a few of the reserve forces here in Canada. The reason I bring this to everyone's attention at this time is due mainly to the fact that a lot of our soldiers started out the same as myself, with a Cadet unit. I am there fore dedicating a section of this Home page to any Cadet or reserve unit that would like to be recognized on our web site. If you are a member or know of a unit ( be it Cadets, Reserve or Regular Force ) and you would like us to add them here please send us a email. We have already one Air Cadet Unit that has asked us to list them, please support these young people and check out their Web Site. On a separate page I will also be displaying the unit hat badges that I have worn of the 20 years of service to this country and the badges will be linked to these units web site. We will be adding a new page in the very near future and anyone who has served to feel free to send a picture of their hat badges also and their name and unit served in.
